Heritage Montessori School offers an excellent education to children ages 2 years through elementary. We are dedicated to providing a safe and loving environment that will enrich your child’s mind and spirit. With two unique locations, our Hunting Beach campus is in the historic former family home of Senator John Murdy and our Lake Forest campus is adjacent to the new 80 acre sports park. Both schools are custom designed and constructed to facilitate the educational philosophies of Dr. Maria Montessori.
Heritage Montessori School, guided by Dr. Montessori’s philosophy and current best practices in education, cultivates the full human potential of each child in a caring, peaceful environment. We serve the child’s intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs. We partner with parents to develop the child’s independence, responsibility, respect, self-confidence and cultivate a love of learning. We inspire and support our staff to evolve as Montessorians.

· The Montessori Method has been time-tested for over 100 years and has achieved success throughout the world.

· We follow a well-defined, rigorous curriculum that is an eclectic blend of classical Montessori roots, modern enhancements, and innovative activities that encourage the development of fundamental skills.

· In the scientifically prepared environment at Heritage Montessori, the child develops the prime elements of his character: freedom, concentration, independence, self-discipline, industry, sense of order in an atmosphere of cooperation and harmony.

· Each child progresses on an individual basis within a social setting that is compatible for him.

· Heritage Montessori staff are creative, caring, educated, and enthusiastic about what they do.

· We offer safe and exciting environments. Our school purchases only the highest quality materials, supplies, and playthings. They are maintained continuously and supplemented or replaced several times a year. In addition, school premises are cleaned daily by a professional cleaning service.

· Monthly emails and posted notes provide efficient communication. Digital voice messaging for mass communications.

· Daily health screenings and air purification systems help keep children healthy. Sick children are excluded from school.

· Customized electronic check in/out identification software ensures only persons you authorize will pick up your child. Security cameras monitor the exterior of the campus 24/7.

· Fun and exciting summer program that combines learning with weekly thematic activities.

· Optional hot lunch program.

· Technology in the classrooms.

· State of the art playground with artificial turf surfaces and outdoor music system.

· Tutoring services for both HMS and non HMS students.

· Standardized testing for elementary students.

· Special classes for elementary students in composition, foreign language, art skills, and fine arts.

· Heritage Montessori is a great place to celebrate a birthday, a sports team party, a family reunion and so much more. We offer our campus for private parties to HMS and non HMS families.

· Firm and Flexible Management: Our standards, policies, procedures, communications, and administrative controls are founded on sound business practices and ensure a standard of quality on which our clientele can rely.

All of the children at HMS are truly cared about. They spend at least two years with the same teacher, so they are known and cared about for who they are. We watch and celebrate their progress and milestones over the years as you do. You have to decide whether we are the school your child can thrive in, the one that best matches what you want for him. This is probably subject to the greatest miscommunication.

We all want the very best for our own child. Montessori is taught in a very different way than the vast majority of us experienced in our school years. Some of us decided that what we experienced growing up was exactly right for our child, and some of us want something completely different. In either case, expectations are difficult to communicate. This area is where we find misunderstandings are most likely to occur. What does it mean to receive a truly superior education in a Montessori fashion? We often don’t even realize that our expectations differ. Our belief as an authentic Montessori school is to allow a child to learn and grow at his own pace, no matter how quickly or slowly that may be. All of our students are assessed and engage in the curriculum at their own level so that they may flourish to the best of their developmental stage and capacity.

You will go through a selection process to be admitted to our school. We do this to make sure that our values are aligned and that we can truly benefit your family and your child. Enrolling your child in Heritage demonstrates that you are making a serious commitment to your child’s education. The return on your investment will be enhanced if there is a consistency between your home and your child’s classroom. This does not mean putting Montessori materials in your living room. It means taking the Montessori perspective. With this perspective, your attitudes, your pace, your expectations, and the limits you establish for your child will be in keeping with the principles that Maria Montessori developed. Principles that came from her lifelong observation of the true nature of children. To gain this perspective, you must candidly communicate your expectations and values during the admission process.
